Alorus didn't like to adventure alone, and thus, had usually stuck around family or friends when exploring. He'd thus never really thought of needing to truly defend himself. If the going got tough, there had always been someone much more efficient at dealing with the threat, like Magni or his grandpapa, Bal.

However, it had become increasingly obvious that with new grown independence... he was going to need to start thinking about pulling his own weight in a pickle. Nothing had really felt like a perfect fit for him until he'd gone back to Bal and whined about it in typical boyish fashion. His grandad had rolled his eyes affectionately, and then sat the younger wool down, as he was wont to do, telling him about his old Shifting days. He'd apparently been quite the spectacle, or so he claimed.

It was he who got Alorus his Shifting stone, bringing it out in a small box, letting the younger wool know that it had been in the family for a while now. It had previously been his, in fact, and was passing it down to him. Immediately, this had made Alorus vaguely anxious, for wouldn't Bal miss it? And his grandfather had responded that while yes, he likely would... it was also time for him to find a better fit for himself, and that enough time had passed that he may need to re train himself, or even change disciplines entirely.

Taking the stone, Alorus had left the older Wool and carried it with him since, even though he hadn't attempted to use it. He vaguely recalled sitting near a river, staring into the colorful stone, turning it this way and that. While it was not jewel, it was immensely valuable to him, and the fact it had been passed down from his grandfather meant the world to him.

At the same time, he could not help the vague sense of anxiety that ate away at him when he looked at it; after all, he held in his hands, in a way, Bal's own strength and fortitude. He was unsure if he could actually manage to reach the heights his grandad wanted from him. All that faith... he didn't want to let him down, and though that fear ate away at him, it also pushed him and strengthened his resolve to do and be better.

He would take this stone and show Bal what he was worth.
